The Colleges Emerging Technologies Center of the Americas (the
ETCOTA) is prepared to help fulfill these workforce needs with Florida residents.
Almost 40,000 square feet of space in the downtown campus Parking
Facility, only two blocks from the NAP of the Americas, is about to be inaugurated.
Miami-Dade Community College has been granted a $7.9 million for the build-out,
for high tech networking infrastructure and for equipment to take this shell space
and create a dynamic, state-of-the-art technology-training center to rival any
in the world.
The Emerging Technologies Center of the Americas Project is included in the
Commissioner of Educations budget request; it has the support of the IT
Florida Task Force, the State Board of Community Colleges, the InternetCoast,
the NAP of the Americas, the Miami Internet Alliance, the Beacon Council, and
many others.
This Project will allow Miami-Dade Community College to serve approximately
20,000 individuals with the kind of skill-based training and educational opportunities
they need to succeed in this new high tech economy.
The numbers
Miami-Dade Community College has planned 39,000 gross
sq. ft. for a state-of-the-art IT and Telecom training facility just two blocks
away from the NAPs that wil count on:
375 high tech training stations
20 classrooms and technology labs
High tech demonstration areas
Yielding over 1,000 training sessions per year
Training over 20,000 people per year
